As reported by the Denver Business Journal, Fort Collins was ranked 2nd out of the top 15 cities in the USA to retire in (by ValuePenguin, a New York based data analysis company).
“The report, titled ‘Best Cities to Retire,’ crunched data from sources like the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Department of Transportation, the FBI, the United Health Foundation and Gallup to rank the nation’s 200 largest metros.”
In addition to Fort Collins, the Metro Denver Area ranked ninth and Boulder ranked twelfth.
The rankings were based upon:
- Quality of Life – the percentage of those over 65 who lived above poverty level, community health and well being.
- Travel and Leisure – walkability, biking trails, local parks and golf courses, entertainment facilities, weather and access to diverse nonstop international flights.
- Health and Safety – the number of highly rated hospitals, and the ratio of physicians and assisted living facilities per 1000 residents. Also crime rates were weighted in as well.
- Housing Availability and Taxes – important here was the percentage of the population over 65, average retirement income, cost of owning a home, property and sales taxes.
Money Magazines Thinks So Too
Clearly Fort Collins offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy life as an older adult. Money Magazine has also found Fort Collins to be “The Best Place to Live in America” (click here to read our post on this). Our most rewarding work as Realtors has been to help bring extended families together here in NoCo and a big part of our business in the last year involved doing so.
